The central portion of the breast contains a hard, irregular mass, 5 cm in diameter, lying behind the drawn in nipple. The cut surface of the tumour is pearly-grey in colour, and exhibits central scarring. Thin yellow streaks radiate from the nipple into the underlying tumour. The axillary lymph node shown has been largely replaced by secondary spread of the tumour.
