A 60 year old man developed sudden weakness of his left arm and leg, and was taken to hospital by ambulance. A CT scan of the brain showed an area of dead tissue (infarct) in the right cerebral hemisphere. After two weeks on bed rest, he succumbed to bronchopneumonia (infection of the lung).
