This specimen shows a section of the right lung, obtained surgically from a heavy smoker, who was suffering from lung cancer. The lung is infiltrated by a large carcinoma ("cancer") arising from the main bronchus. The malignant tumour has obstructed the bronchi supplying the middle and lower lobes, which are partially collapsed.
